As a parent of a Special Child, you probably know, that, "Play Therapy" is one of the strongest tools for helping Children with ASD, who are more likely to play alone in repetitive patterns and in activities, that limit the chance to learn through play and explore their abilities or interests.
Children typically use play to build physical and social skills, try on different personalities and characters, and forge friendships. Since Autistic Children play in various ways, Play Techniques can help provide similar opportunities to become more fully themselves and, in some cases, connect more fully with Parents and other Kids.
Surprisingly, Puppets becomes an excellent Conductor between them, coping well with the Role of Teacher, Cute Companion and a true close Friend!
Why Puppets?
Absolutely all Kids Love Puppets! Maybe because they look, act and speak differently than Humans and appear more fun, friendly, colourful, playful and trustworthy from the Kid's perspective?
Puppet Characters are from Different Fairy Worlds, which is why maybe Special Kids, feel more connected and comfortable sharing a common environment with them!
Playing and learning together with Puppets enormously increases the possibility and quality of perception of Playing and Learning material way better, easier, more productive and more successful!
Puppets offer Children a unique opportunity for Role-Playing, allowing Kids to explore their personalities and ideas and develop their imagination more openly. Also, Playing with Puppets can teach Children about their emotions and can better interact with Puppets, as Kids share their ability to be happy, funny, smiling and laughing, as Puppets do!
And here is the Goal!
As a valuable Lesson, the Puppet can Imitate the unwanted child's behaviour and the Practitioner can address, correct and speak to the Puppet, instead of talking directly to the Child!
It greatly softens the issue, reduces the Child's aggression, and the Child can better observe and perceive the situation from the outside.
This practice can even evoke sympathy for a Puppet Friend in the Child.
